Other Types of Miniatures
SCIFI & Fantasy
Sometimes everyone gets bored with doing the same types of Models day after day. Well, we most certainly do and that is what this page is all about. Every now and then we will bring you some "Other" type of Modelling subject here and expalin alittle bit about how it was done. There are many modeling techniques that "crossover" from one subject to another. Easier things such as Drybrushing, and certain scratchbuilding  techniques can be used in all aspects of modelling miniatures no matter what your chosen subject may be.
Alien Races of the Star Wars worlds:
Lately I've been on a sculpting kick and also discovered a book on the Alien Races of Star Wars. Well, I've decided to scuplt all the interesting ones (about 30 of them!) in 100mm scale, so here goes!

One of the first in the book is a rather interesting character called an "Aqualish". Looked kinda cool so I started with a bent paper clip frame and added a bunch of putty blobs.
All the blobs were trimmed up to obtain a basic shape and more putty was added and smoothed over with a wet paintbrush. I am using Magic Sculp Putty for all of these projects by the way, great stuff!!  Using more putty and slightly wet fine paintbrushes, small amounts of putty were added and shaped in stages. Each stage was allowed to dry around 10 minutes under a heat lamp before continuing on.
Speaking of Star Wars aliens, here's yet another in-progress, an Arconan.  This was made using a triangular paper clip frame onto which putty was applied to form an elongated teepee. A metal rod was pushed into the top and the teepee was allowed to harden overnight. Next a triangular blob of putty was shaped onto the top post and again allowed to dry overnight. Next was 7 days worth of one hour sessions to get it this far. Yes folks, this is all made from Magic Sculp and paper clips! There is still alot of "fine-tuning" to be done on the head but the basics are there.
Stay tuned, there's more to come soon!
Currently there are a few new SCIFI projects underway. First off is a highly modified Star Trek DS9 Runabout model which is being turned into an Attack Transport/Landing Craft type of ship. It will feature many exterior mod.s, a fully detailed interior, working lights and a fully operational opening rear ramp with a specialized APC type of vehicle which is completely scartchbuilt and of a new design. After that is an AT-ST with slight modifications, full interior (with lighting) and a new "woodland" camoflage scheme. We're also pondering the idea of an "Upgunned" and improved model of the Snow Speeder from Star Wars 4 with a new Winter Camo. This should all prove interesting along with the Polar Lights 1/350 Enterprise A that with be converted into a either a Destroyer or Light Cruiser Class of ship. Still haven't figured that one out yet. Keep checking back from time to time. You'll never know what you may find here!
